First Communion took place on Saturday 19th May in the Our Lady of the Wayside Church in Jenkinstown.
I would like to thank Fr Padraig for officiating, he delivered a beautiful ceremony. It was a special day in these children’s’ lives and it was very personal service.
I would like to thanks Anne Murphy for playing the organ at the mass. Anne is always very willing to accommodate us and we thank her for that. I would like to thank Betty for helping out with the preparations over the past number of weeks and Mrs Sheelan who organised the school choir, thanks Mrs Sheelan. The choir sounded absolutely wonderful on the day and the pupils from Rang 1 did themselves, Mrs Sheelan, their parents and their school proud with their behaviour and contribution to the music which made Saturday most enjoyable.
I would like to thank Miss Toner for her hard work and dedication in preparing the pupils for their Holy Communion. Her attention to detail ensured that the ceremony ran smoothly and I would like to pass on my thanks to her along with the pupils’ parents who have helped these children reach this stage of their faith journey.
I would also like to thank the other members of staff who were present, we are deeply indebted to staff who take time out to come along and assist on school religious occasions.
Thanks also to the Parents Association who the tea for the relatives and friends of the children of First Holy Communion after the mass in the school. Everybody has been made feel most welcome and the school community appreciates all of the hard work that was carried out in the preparation of refreshments, the reception area and the huge workload involved catering for all gathered. The goodwill and warmth shown is a massive asset to our school. Sincere thanks to all.
Last and certainly not least I would like to congratulate the boys and girls, because it was after all their special day. They looked very smart in their beautiful attire and were equally confident and assured in their various roles.
