In recent times a number of Bellurgan N.S parents with their children, have been going for a walk in the hills. These are intended to be entertaining, exploring outings to help develop an interest in the Cooleys. Our first outing was last Halloween, when we had a large number on a midnight walk in seasonal costume with a few stories of a scary sort thrown in. Another was at the New Year, to the deserted village of Lisnashiggle, up in the hills at the back of Dulargy, with a few tall tales of the area included to add colour to the walk.
Our next venture is to Bearnavave on Saturday 23rd March, which will include a few myths and legends of Glenmore, Bearnavave and others suggested by hints from the landscape. The only requirements for going are that we all use our own transport, wish to further develop an interest in the local area and that a parent/supervisor accompanies each child, besides that, appropriate walking/weather clothing and footwear is a good idea. As we stop for a sandwich, on the hills, a flask, drink or snack tastes all the better while taking in great views.
If anyone wishes to join us on this walk, which will take about 1 & 1/2 to 2 hrs, we will be meeting up at Bellurgan School for 10.00am on the 23rd March. Looking forward to another great adventure.
